#Olympic Day: Let’s Move for Badminton

Too many people around the world simply aren’t moving enough. According to the World Health Organization (2024), one in three adults and over 80 per cent of young people are falling short of the recommended levels of physical activity for good health. It’s a growing concern and one that the Olympic Movement is tackling head-on.

That’s where Let’s Move comes in. An initiative launched in 2023 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with a simple yet powerful goal: to inspire more people to get active through sport and everyday movement. Tapping into the energy and influence of Olympic athletes, the Let’s Move campaign is a reminder of how sport can bring us together and make a difference, not just in fitness but in our overall wellbeing.

Olympians such as Kunlavut Vitidsarn and An Se Young are showing how movement, even in small bursts, can have a big impact. They are among a host of our badminton stars inviting fans around the world to make badminton part of their daily routine and use the sport to move more, laugh more and live healthier lives.

Badminton is fast-paced, fun and accessible, plus it’s one of the best ways to stay fit while connecting with others. From garden games to club matches, it offers something for everyone, no matter your age or ability.

Olympic Day, held every 23 June to mark the birth of the modern Olympic Games, is all about keeping it social. Under the theme Let’s Move, people everywhere are being encouraged to invite a “plus one” – a friend, family member or colleague to join them in getting active. Whether it’s going for a walk, picking up a racket or having a rally in the park to play AirBadminton, it all counts.

The Let’s Move campaign is about more than just one day. It’s a long-term effort to promote regular movement and showcase the power of sport to boost physical, mental and social health. Through shared activities, local events and online tools, the campaign is making it easier for people everywhere to get involved.
