The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is pleased to announce Geelong, Australia as host of the BWF World Senior Championships 2027.
The championships are one of BWF’s largest participation events, bringing together leading senior players across age categories from 35+ to 80+. The event is expected to attract some 2,500 players, officials, and visitors from around the world to Geelong.
BWF President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul said: “Taking the BWF World Senior Championships to Australia and Oceania reflects our firm commitment to elevating badminton as a truly global sport and expanding opportunities for players around the world.
“Badminton belongs to everyone. We want badminton to be a sport of choice that is accessible to people everywhere, across all communities, genders, ages, and abilities, and this tournament is an important step in supporting that vision.”
Badminton Australia President Julie McDonald added: “Hosting the BWF World Senior Championships 2027 is an incredible achievement for badminton in Australia and a proud moment for our entire community.
“This event will not only bring the world’s best senior players to our shores, but also inspire participation, strengthen connections across generations, and create a lasting legacy for the sport nationwide.”
BWF extends its thanks to Badminton Australia, the Victorian Government, and the City of Greater Geelong for their support.
This will be the first BWF Major Championship to be staged in Australia since the BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2017.
The BWF World Senior Championships 2027 are headed to Geelong.
World Senior Circuit to Launch in 2026
The BWF will also launch a new World Senior Circuit in 2026, beginning with three tournaments across three continents:

The long-term goal is to develop a structured and regulated global circuit from 2027 onwards, with results to be used for a World Senior Ranking and seeding for circuit tournaments and the BWF World Senior Championships.
President Leeswadtrakul added: “We are seeing a strong and growing community of players 35 years and above who continue to compete at an elite level well into their senior years.
“Our objective is to expand opportunities for badminton as a sport for life by developing a sustainable, Member-driven, cost-neutral, global senior tournament circuit.”
