Oceania Championships: Australia Stamp Dominance

Australia retained their titles at the VICTOR Oceania Men’s and Women’s Team Championships 2026 in Auckland.

The identical scorelines of 4-1 over New Zealand in the men’s and women’s team finals showed the dominance of the defending champions, as Australia’s men won their fourth successive title and the women their seventh.

Leading to the final tie in both categories, Australia and New Zealand had won all their four group contests. New Zealand had a great start in the women’s final, with Shaunna Li beating Tiffany Ho 21-13 21-19.

The challengers continued to press hard in the remaining contests, but Australia refused to cede ground. Faye Huo made it 2-0 beating Amy Wang in the second singles, before Jesslyn Carrisia made it 2-1 beating Josephine Zhao.

Faye Huo/Gronya Somerville were tested by Natalie Ting/Camellia Zhou but came away winners in three games, and then Carrisia/Angela Yu made it 4-1 after a close 21-14 17-21 22-20 result over Shaunna Li/Laura Lin.

Tahiti won third place with three wins out of five matches.

The men’s team final contest too mirrored the women’s, with New Zealand taking the lead through Edward Lau, who beat Jack Yu 16-21 21-18 21-18.

New Zealand nearly grasped the second point in men’s doubles, with Raphael Chris Deloy/Adam Jefrey staging a dramatic comeback at the death in the third game against Andika Ramadiansyah/Frederick Zhao. The New Zealanders knocked off six points in a row to level at 18, and it was a neck-and-neck battle before the Australians edged past, 23-21 to level the tie.

Ephraim Stephen Sam survived a tough challenge from Chris Benzie, before Rizky Hidayat/Jack Yu gave Australia the winning point beating Dylan Soedjasa/Vincent Tao 21-18 21-17.

Oceania champion Shrey Dhand made no mistake in the last match, sealing the tie 4-1 for Australia beating Ricky Cheng 23-21 21-17.

Tahiti’s 5-0 win over Northern Mariana Islands saw them take third place ahead of New Calidonia —matching their best-ever result and marking only the second time in history they’ve achieved this double podium finish.
