‘Defining Moment’ for Para Badminton

BWF President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul hailed the hosting of the BAHRAIN BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2026 as a defining moment for the sport.

Speaking at the hosting agreement signing, Leeswadtrakul described the event as “a historic milestone for Para badminton”.

“This is a testament to Bahrain’s commitment and dedication to supporting the Paralympic movement and promoting the concept of ‘Sport for All,’” she said after signing the agreement with Bahrain Paralympic Committee President Shaikh Mohamed bin Duaij Al Khalifa.

“We are confident Bahrain, with its track record of professional and precise organisation and ability to provide an inclusive and integrated sports environment, will provide an inspiring stage for our athletes and help grow the sport across new communities in the Middle East and the world.”

The ceremony was attended by Secretary General of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee Ali Mohamed Al Majed and President of the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation Dr. Sawsan Taqawi.

During the event, the championship’s logo was also unveiled, drawing inspiration from the interior shape of a shuttlecock and the geometric patterns of traditional Bahraini wooden doors – a reflection of the Kingdom’s cultural and architectural heritage.

The 2026 edition will make Bahrain the first Middle Eastern nation to host the BWF Para Badminton World Championships, highlighting the country’s emergence as a regional hub for international sport and its strong record in organising major Para sporting events.
