Legends Tony Gunawan and Hendra Setiawan celebrated their partnership by winning the men’s doubles 40+ age group title at the Amazing Thailand-Pattaya BWF World Senior Championships 2025 on Sunday.
Gunawan and Setiawan, who between them have two Olympic and six World Championships titles, comfortably charged through the draw without dropping a game. In the final, the USA-Indonesian pair beat Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana/Jakrapan Thanathiratham 21-18 21-16.
Setiawan also won the mixed doubles 35+ age group, combining with former teammate Debby Susanto. The second seeds beat Thailand’s Nawut Thanathratham/Peeraya Munkitamorn 21-5 21-9.

The week-long tournament, held from 7 to 14 September, saw 1669 players from 54 teams, with nearly 2000 matches contested.
Among the well-known names who walked away with titles were Hastomo Arbie, who won the men’s singles and men’s doubles (with Simbarsono Sutanto) in the 65+ category, Marleve Mainaky, who won the men’s singles 50+, Pamela Peard (winner, women’s doubles 60+) and Dan Travers (winner, mixed doubles 65+).
Marjan Ridder of the Netherlands, silver medallist at the very first IBF World Championships in 1977 in women’s doubles, won two titles in the 70+ category: women’s doubles (with Christine Black) and mixed doubles (with Rob Ridder).
Two players swept three titles each. Iceland’s Drifa Hardardottir won the women’s singles (45+), women’s doubles (40+) and mixed doubles (45+), while Christine Black won the women’s singles (70+), women’s doubles (70+) and mixed doubles (+75).
