Egypt Excel at Africa AirBadminton Championships

Egypt emerged champions in the team relay event at the BWF AirBadminton Africa Continental Championships 2025 which concluded in Accra, Ghana on Sunday. The champions and runners-up (Nigeria) qualified for the BWF AirBadminton World Cup 2025 later this year.

In the final, Egypt beat Nigeria 60-46; Mauritius won third place beating Benin 60-52.

Egypt were the most successful team at the championships, winning the women’s doubles, the mixed doubles, and the women’s triples.

The Mauritius No Limit team won the men’s doubles beating Egypt MD-1, while compatriots Mauritius Rempart won the men’s triples beating Benin.

The team relay competition consisted of group stage followed by knockout. Nigeria, with three wins from three matches, emerged top of Group A followed by Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea, while in Group B, Benin finished ahead of South Africa and Central African Republic.

Group C finished with Mauritius on top, followed by Egypt, Ghana and Togo. Interestingly, Egypt lost a close match to Ghana in the group, 58-60. However, in the knockout stage, Egypt were unstoppable as they beat South Africa 60-45 (quarterfinals), Mauritius 60-40 (semifinals) and Nigeria 60-46 (final) to win the title.

In the other semifinal, Nigeria came through by a wafer-thin margin against Benin, 60-59.

“We tried to stay consistent and try new shots and we just did our best and worked hard, and I think our hard work paid off,” said Egypt’s Fatema Rabie.
