Lucas Mazur marked his first outing since claiming the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games SL4 men’s singles gold by acing the NSDF Thailand Para Badminton International 2025 in Korat.
Despite being absent from the circuit for nine months, Mazur didn’t show any sign of rustiness, powering through the group stage without dropping a game. He maintained that dominance in the knockout matches, culminating in a commanding 21-15 21-12 victory over India’s Naveen Sivakumar in Sunday’s final.
Mazur remains unbeaten in singles competition since going down to Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj in the World Championships semifinal in February last year.
There was also more glory for Korea’s Park Haeseong and Jung Gyeoul, who bagged their sixth title of the season. Park/Jung were pushed to three matches by Swiss pair Marc Elmer and Cynthia Mathez in the WH1-WH2 mixed doubles final but prevailed 21-13 18-21 21-9. Jung later defeated Alphia James 21-8 21-12 in the WH2 women’s singles title match.
Two long droughts came to an end as well. Akiko Sugino beat Rosa Efomo De Marco 21-12 21-13 to capture her first SU5 women’s singles title since the Spanish Para Badminton International in March 2022 while Pricha Somsiri returned to the top of the podium top after his Japan Para Badminton International 2018 success. Somsiri partnered Nattaphon Thaweesap to overcome Kim Gi Yeon/Lee Jeongsoo 25-27 21-11 21-10 in the SU5 men’s doubles final.
