Brazil emerged champions at the Pan Am AirBadminton Cup 2025 in Lima, Peru on Sunday beating Venezuela in the team relay final.
The tournament is the continental qualifying tournament for the BWF AirBadminton World Cup which will be held from in UAE from 13 to 16 November 2025. With Pan Am having two qualifying spots for the World Cup, both Brazil and Venezuela are headed to UAE.
The Brazil women’s triples team celebrate
The Pan Am tournament in Lima saw Brazil win their group beating Mexico (60-43) and Guatemala (60-31), while Venezuela topped their group with victories over Peru (60-35) and El Salvador (60-45).
In the semifinals, Brazil beat El Salvador while Venezuela got the better of Mexico.
Brazil’s victory was a continuation of their dominant performances over the last two years as they had won the team relay and men’s triples in 2024, and the men’s and women’s triples in 2023.
“We’re very happy,” said Tamires Santos from Brazil. “Last year we won the silver medal in the women’s triples, and the men are three-time champions in that event. We’re thrilled to be able to participate and represent badminton in a different way in this new sport, and we’re very proud to have earned our spot at the World Cup. Now we’re going to train harder to be well-prepared for the World Cup and plan ahead, so everything goes smoothly.”
Venezuela’s silver medal winning team
“I’m very happy about qualifying for the AirBadminton World Cup,” said Venezuela’s Mariangel Garcia. “We’ve been preparing for this, and we were able to achieve our goal. I’d like to thank everyone who supported us: the authorities in Venezuela, and everyone who followed us on YouTube for every match. The challenge now is to continue training to represent our country well in the United Arab Emirates.”
El Salvador won bronze after defeating Mexico in the third place playoff. Both teams have a good record at this tournament, with El Salvador having won the women’s triples gold in 2024, while Mexico won bronze in the same event.
“We had a lot of fun chasing victory in every match. Communication as a team was key to achieving this medal; the support we received from each other helped us a lot. We’re leaving happy, not only because of the result but because we enjoyed playing AirBadminton, and we’ll keep training to win gold next time,” said Javier Alas from El Salvador.
The Pan Am Championships are one of four continental championships which serve as qualifying events for the World Cup. The Africa AirBadminton Championships 2025, which serves as the African qualifying tournament, will be held 3 to 6 July 2025, followed by the Asia Pacific Championships (8-10 August in Malaysia) and European Championships (5-7 September in Azerbaijan).
