Hungary’s Vivien Sandorhazi stormed into the women’s singles quarterfinals beating France’s Leonice Huet at the 2025 European Championships.
The second round match promised to go the distance when the contestants split the first two games, but Sandorhazi ran away with the third game 21-2 to book her quarterfinal spot against Spain’s Clara Azurmendi, who beat Turkiye’s Neslihan Arin 21-19 21-19.
However, Turkiye have one representative in the women’s singles quarterfinals, with Ozge Bayrak fighting her way past Polina Buhrova; Bayrak will face Julie Dawall Jakobsen for a spot in the last four. Jakobsen was one of three Danes to reach the quarterfinals; the others were top seed Line Kjaersfeldt and Line Christophersen, who will clash for a spot in the semifinals.
First Medal for Maio/Palermo

Julien Maio and Lea Palermo of France
Julien Maio/Lea Palermo secured their first European Championships medal when they entered the semifinals.
On Saturday the French duo face another pair also hunting their first medal, at least together, Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund. Magelund won bronze at last year’s European Championships with former partner Mathias Thyrri.
One pair who do know what it takes to reach a European final are the reigning champions Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue, who comfortably secured their semifinal spot with a 21-9 21-14 win over Robin Tabeling/Alexandra Bøje. The French pair will now face Denmark’s Mads Vestergaard/Christine Busch.
In the women’s doubles, two former Danish partners, Sara Thygesen and Maiken Fruergaard, are both playing their final international tournament. The duo, who have four European Championship medals together, split after the Olympics in Paris, and Fruergaard was paired with new partner Natasja P Anthonisen.
On Thursday, both played in separate quarterfinals. Debora Jille/Sara Thygesen faced 4th-seeded Julie Finne-Ipsen/Mai Surrow, but the Danish-Dutch duo controlled the match from start to finish, winning 21-13 21-13.
Anthonisen/ Fruergaard faced Kirsten De Wit/Mariia Stoliarenko, and they too were never really threatened, they won 21-16 21-8.
