China had an excellent quarterfinals day at the BANK OF NINGBO Badminton Asia Championships 2025 winning all their matches except for Shi Yu Qi, whose jinxed run at this tournament continued.
The world No.1 was outplayed by No.8 seed Loh Kean Yew 21-19 13-21 21-16 in a match that lasted 67 minutes. The Singaporean faces Kunlavut Vitidsarn, who survived a tight battle with Kenta Nishimoto, 23-21 in the third.
Shi Yu Qi
Apart from Shi’s loss, it was China’s day all the way through. Defending champion Jonatan Christie fell rather tamely to local hope Lu Guang Zu 21-13 21-13, while No.4 seed Li Shi Feng also took his place in the semifinals with a dominant performance over Kodai Naraoka 23-21 21-10.
Other Chinese to win included Chen Yu Fei, Han Yue and Gao Fang Jie (women’s singles), Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang and Chen Bo Yang/Liu Yi (men’s doubles), Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan, Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning and Zhang Shu Xian/Zheng Yu (women’s doubles), and Jiang Zheng Bang/Wei Ya Xin (mixed doubles).
Chen Yu Fei
Chen Yu Fei enjoyed a morale-boosting win over 2019 champion Akane Yamaguchi in an unusually one-sided encounter, 21-19 21-13.
Sim Yu Jin was the only non-Chinese in the women’s singles semifinals after she beat Natsuki Nidaira in straight games.
India Open champions Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin lost a tight match to Chen Bo Yang/Liu Yu, 22-20 in the decider, with the victors going on to play Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana. The other semifinal will see Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik against Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang.
