Asian Championships: Good Day for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s Viren Nettasinghe made the main draw of the BANK OF NINGBO Badminton Asia Championships 2025 after he topped his qualifying group.

World No.68 Nettasinghe beat Brunei’s Kah Kit Kan in straight games and then prevailed in three games over Vietnam’s Le Duc Phat to book his place in the main draw, where he will face fourth seed Li Shi Feng.

Malaysia’s Justin Hoh, Macau China’s Pui Pang Fong and Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Panarin also made it to the main draw after topping groups A, C and D.

Ranithma Liyanage

» Nettasinghe’s compatriot Ranithma Liyanage qualified for the women’s singles main draw after beating Mikaela Joy De Guzman of Philippines 21-11 18-21 21-17. Liyanage received a walkover in her next qualifying round from Malaysia’s Letshanaa Karupathevan.

» It was a good day for Sri Lanka, with Thulith Palliyaguru/Panchali Adhikari topping Group C in mixed doubles. They will face India’s Ashith Surya/Amrutha Pramuthesh in the first round.

» The first round of mixed doubles saw No.4 seeds Guo Xin Wa/Chen Fang Hui succumb to Chinese Taipei’s Ye Hong Wei/Nicole Gonzales Chan 21-19 13-21 21-19.
