Paralympic and world champion Qu Zimo’s outstanding achievements over the past season have seen him make the nominee list for the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards in the ‘Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability’ category.

Qu Zimo has been honoured with a nomination for the Laureus World Sports Awards
One of the most successful athletes in Wheelchair events, Qu won all three of his events (singles, doubles and mixed doubles) at the NSDF ROYAL BEACH BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2024 and followed that up with a double gold at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The 23-year-old’s achievements were honoured by BWF at the end of last season with the ‘Men’s Para Badminton Player of the Year’ award.
Qu is among six nominees for the Laureus award; the others are: Catherine Debrunner (Switzerland, Para athletics), Tokito Oda (Japan, Wheelchair tennis), Teresa Perales (Spain, Para swimming), Matt Stutzman (USA, Para archery) and Jiang Yuyan (China, Para swimming).
Each Laureus award category and individual nominee will be celebrated in the lead-up to the awards and Qu’s nominee day will be celebrated by the Laureus team on 5 April 2025. The award winners will be announced on 21 April 2025.
Overall, the categories for nomination to the Laureus awards are: ‘Sportsman of the Year’, ‘Sportswoman of the Year’, ‘Team of the Year’, ‘Breakthrough of the Year’, ‘Comeback of the Year’, ‘Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability’, ‘Action Sportsperson of the Year’, besides the Laureus Sport for Good Award, which honours equity and inclusion.
