Marin Eyes Third Comeback

Carolina Marin has confirmed she is working on returning to competition “at the right time”.

The three-time world champion is currently in rehab after a tearful exit from her Olympic semifinal against He Bing Jiao in August due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

The Spaniard has now set her sights on the 2026 European Championship in her home country, reported Xinhua.

Speaking recently at the presentation of a documentary detailing her battle to regain fitness, Marin said: “When I broke my knee for the third time, I was convinced I was going to retire. But after a lot of reflection, I realised it would upset me if I was forced to retire through injury.

“I don’t want it (the Euros) to be an obsession, but it’s a big target on the horizon. I’d be excited to compete there, in my home (country) and with all my friends.”

Last month, the 31-year-old told reporters at a gala in Madrid she would take her time in coming back.

“There’s no rush but it’s been non-stop rehab. It’s important to build up the muscles first,” Marin said. “I go step by step; I would love to retire on the court but I’m not in a rush.”

Marin had previously come back from two ACL injuries – in 2019 and 2021.
