AirBadminton Lights Up Dubai

AirBadminton events held on successive weekends this month were a big hit in Dubai, attracting around 200 participants.

The Dubai Police Ramadan AirBadminton Tournament 2024 was the largest such tournament in the region and consisted of the individual event held on 16 & 17 March, followed by the Mixed Team Relay (Triples) over the last weekend on 23 & 24 March. The two events were held at the Dubai Police Officer’s Club in Al Jadhaf, Dubai, and were organised by the Dubai Police, in collaboration with the UAE Badminton Federation, as part of their Ramadan Games 2024. The courts were custom-built for the tournament.

The tournament in progress in Dubai

Al Raed Sports won the Mixed Team Relay finals, beating Team NVBA 80-74, continuing their success from the previous week, where they secured the title in the Mixed Triples (XT) category during the individual events.

Noteworthy among the performances was the commendable showing of Emirati players in the boys and girls Under-17 categories, with Al Nasr Club, Dubai, asserting their dominance by securing all three podium positions in both doubles events. This display underscores the growing talent pool within the Emirati badminton community, setting a solid foundation for future success. A substantial prize purse totaling AED 36,000 was distributed across six events at the prize ceremony.

The tournament builds on Dubai’s impressive track record in hosting competitive AirBadminton events, which have included Dubai Sports Council-backed Beach Festivals, Expo events and Kalba Beach Games.
