World Juniors: China, Korea to Face Off in Group A

Reigning champions Korea take on powerhouses China in a high-profile Group A tie of the BWF World Junior Team Championships 2023 in Spokane, USA.

The Team Event of the BWF World Junior Championships will be held 25-30 September 2023 and features 40 teams from all five Continental Confederations. The draw was conducted at the BWF office in Kuala Lumpur today.

Top seeds China were placed at the head of Group A and second seeds Thailand at the top of Group H. During the course of the draw, Korea, the 9/16 seeds, were picked into Group A; three other teams – Australia, Netherlands and Norway – were also drawn into the group. Only the group winners from each of the eight groups will stay in the hunt for the title.

China and Korea are among only four teams to have ever won the title, which is played for the Suhandinata Cup. While China are the record holders with 13 titles, Korea were champions thrice. Malaysia (2011) and Indonesia (2019) are the only other teams to have captured the Suhandinata Cup.

Second seeds Thailand will have to contend with hosts USA, Slovenia, Peru and Iceland in Group H.

Malaysia and France, the 3/4 seeds, were drawn into Group C and Group F respectively. Malaysia will battle England, Latvia, Austria and Poland, while France will be up against Spain, Ghana, Hong Kong China and Belgium.

The individual championships will be held 2-8 October after the conclusion of the team event.
