An Occasion to Celebrate – Through Badminton

An Occasion to Celebrate – Through Badminton

In anticipation of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) 2023 and #WhiteCard Day on 6 April 2023, BWF celebrated the occasion using badminton and contributing to the community through the BWF Development CSR Project.

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, which takes place annually on 6 April, presents an opportunity to recognise the positive role sport and physical activity play in communities and in people’s lives across the globe. The #WhiteCard is a sign of commitment to peace efforts worldwide and where small actions make a difference.

The CSR project is part of building BWF’s legacy in Malaysia. The activities were delivered in a sustainable way using the BWF’s flagship Shuttle Time Schools Badminton programme.

The global theme for the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace 2023 is “Scoring for People and the Planet”. This links closely with the BWF Development CSR Project, which uses badminton and Shuttle Time as tools for caregivers and volunteers to deliver simple fun badminton lessons. The lessons can be delivered at locations that are most convenient to the community, ensuring the sustainability of the project.

BWF Shuttle Time Teachers Course

The BWF Shuttle Time Teachers Course was delivered on 4 March 2023 at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management & Technology (TARUMT), Kuala Lumpur, by the BWF Tutor Team of Sharon Springer, Adrian Gomez and Erica Khoo. Nine participants, including teachers, students, coaches and volunteers, attended the course. The goal was to educate and train volunteers and caregivers in delivering fun, safe and inclusive badminton activities to children

BWF CSR Coaching Clinic

The coaching clinic was delivered on 25 March 2023 in the Sports Complex of TARUMT with approximately 40 participants from local children’s homes and schools. Twelve volunteer coaches assisted with five activity stations, giving every child the opportunity to experience different lessons, from grips to balancing exercises to hitting the shuttlecock. The activity was led by Tan Jinn Hwa, who has been part of the CSR workforce since the beginning of the project in 2019.
