World Beach Games: Five Teams Clinch Spots
A recent AIrBadminton tournament in the Netherlands.

Preparations are on in full swing for AirBadminton’s debut at the 2nd ANOC World Beach Games in Bali (5-12 August 2023).

Teams can qualify either through the BWF World Team Ranking list (as of 3 January 2023) or by winning any of the Triples events at the Continental Qualification tournaments. Based on the BWF World Team Ranking, five countries have already qualified: China, Japan, Korea, Denmark and Germany.

Only three countries per continent can qualify through the BWF World Team Ranking.

Continental qualification events start in a month, with the first being the Pan Am qualifiers in Kingston, Jamaica, on 29-30 April 2023. That will be followed by qualification events in Europe (9-11 June in Werkendam, Netherlands); Asia (23-25 June, Kuala Lumpur) and Africa (27-30 June, Hammamet, Tunisia).

AirBadminton at the World Beach Games will be held at Jimbaran Beach, one of Bali’s most famous white sand beaches, from 6-9 August. The matches will be staged in a purpose-built AirBadminton arena, and will feature 72 players (36 men and 36 women) competing in four medal events:

  • Mixed Team Relay
  • Men’s Triples
  • Women’s Triples
  • Mixed Doubles

Indonesia, as hosts, have automatic qualification. The ANOC World Beach Games Invitation Commission can invite two Triples (one men’s team and one women’s team) to the Games.
