Asian Championships: Pusarla Stops In-Form He Bing Jiao

Pusarla V. Sindhu beat He Bing Jiao for the third successive time as she stopped the in-form Chinese in the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Championships 2022.

He Bing Jiao had won two of her last three tournaments – the German Open and the Gwangju Korea Masters – but Pusarla started strongly, taking the opening game at 21-9.

He Bing Jiao fought back to take the match into an entertaining third game, which Pusarla won in a tight finish, 21-19.

In the semifinals, the Indian takes on another in-form player, world champion Akane Yamaguchi, who was also pushed into three games in her quarterfinal by her Thai opponent Pornpawee Chochuwong.

The other semifinal features Chinese young gun Wang Zhi Yi against second seed An Se Young.

♦ World champion Loh Kean Yew fell by the narrowest of margins, 22-20 23-21, to Jonatan Christie.

♦ Top seeds Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan downed fifth seeds Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida 21-15 21-19.
