BWF Statement on Uganda Para Badminton International

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) can confirm the Uganda Para Badminton International 2021 will continue despite two explosions some 4km from the competition venue in the city of Kampala yesterday.

Uganda Badminton Association met with the Kampala Police Department last evening with authorities determining there was no requirement to stop the competition from proceeding.

Earlier in the day, transport to and from the competition venue was suspended and athletes and teams were asked to remain at either the hotel or venue.

Additional armed security was added to both the hotel and competition venue, with all vehicles entering the competition venue compound required to undergo thorough checks.

The BWF, Badminton Confederation of Africa and Uganda Badminton Association will continue to liaise with local authorities on this matter for the duration of the tournament.

Day 3 matches continue today. The tournament concludes on Sunday 21 November.
