BWF and HSBC to Launch New Outdoor Badminton Game
Something new and exciting is coming to badminton.

With the ongoing support of HSBC, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) has been working towards finding an effective, economic and sustainable way of inspiring more people to play more badminton in more places.

We have spent the last five years working with numerous collaborators to create an exciting new development in the sport, with an increased potential for a new, highly attractive form of competitive badminton, with a key focus on global participation.

This ambitious new development project has been specifically designed to create a greater number of opportunities for men and women of all ages and ability to play badminton on hard, grass and sand surfaces in parks, gardens, streets, playgrounds, and beaches around the world.

The project enters an exciting new phase with our global launch on Monday 13 May at Tianhe Gymnasium, Guangzhou, China. The launch is held in partnership with the Chinese Badminton Association (CBA) and the Guangzhou Sports Bureau (GSB).

Present at the launch will be representatives from HSBC, CBA, GSB as well as BWF President and Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games gold medallist Poul-Erik Høyer; Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games silver medallist, Dong Jiong; Athens 2004 Olympic Games gold medallist, Yang Wei; 2009 women’s singles world champion, Lu Lan; and 2010 men’s singles world champion, Chen Jin.

Both the BWF and HSBC are hugely excited about the impact this development will have on the sport in this region and beyond.

Note: A Video News Release (VNR) package will be made available post-event.
