China dominated the para-badminton event at the Asian Para Games 2018, winning seven gold and four silver as the competition concluded in Jakarta yesterday.
Hosts Indonesia finished second with five gold and five silver medals. India won three gold, Korea two and Hong Kong one.
China’s medal haul was largely thanks to their women athletes, who won four of the five Women’s Singles events, and one of the two Women’s Doubles events.
Liu Yutong (featured image), Li Hongyan and Qu Zimo were the stars for China, as they won a double. Liu Yutong expectedly won the Women’s Singles WH 2 category beating compatriot Xu Tingting 22-20 21-16 and then teamed up with Qu Zimo to win the Mixed Doubles WH 1 – WH 2 final over compatriots Mai Jianpeng and Li Hongyan 14-21 21-18 21-18. Qu Zimo won his Men’s Doubles WH 1 – WH 2 and finished runner-up in Men’s Singles WH 1.
Li Hongyan took Women’s Singles gold in WH 1 beating Thailand’s Sujirat Pookkham and Women’s Doubles with Xu Tingting.
For Indonesia, Leani Ratri Oktila captured two gold medals and a silver. Oktila was runner-up to China’s Cheng Hefang in the Women’s Singles SL 4, 19-21 21-18 21-13, but made up for her disappointment in the Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Her compatriot Dheva Anrimushti also finished with a double.
