Hosny, Kune in Sight of Double – 2017 All Africa Individual Championships

Egypt’s Hadia Hosny and Mauritius’s Kate Foo Kune gave themselves a shot at a double crown at the 2017 All Africa Individual Championships yesterday.

Others who are in line for double title are South Africa’s Andries Malan and Jennifer Fry.

Hosny and Foo Kune (featured image) will face each other in the Women’s Singles final today. In the semi-finals, Hosny overcame Nigeria’s Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan 13-21 21-19 21-13, while Foo Kune beat Egypt’s Menna Eltanany 21-14 21-6.

Foo Kune also made the Mixed Doubles final with Georges Julien Paul, beating Ahmed Salah/Menna Eltanany 21-19 21-15. They take on Andries Malan/Jennifer Fry, who were comfortable victors over Egypt’s Adham Hatem Elgamal/Doha Hany 21-14 21-12.

Hany and Hosny prevailed in a tough Women’s Doubles semi-final over Nigeria’s Adesokan/Zainab Momoh 21-4 24-26 21-18; they take on Jennifer Fry/Michelle Butler-Emmett on Sunday.

Men’s Singles semi-finals saw Algeria’s Adel Hamek battle past Georges Julien Paul 15-21 21-15 22-20 to earn the right to play Egypt’s Ahmed Salah in the title clash. Salah beat compatriot Ali Ahmed El Khateeb 21-17 21-15.

The Men’s Doubles final will feature Andries Malan/James Hilton Mcmanus against Algeria’s Koceila Mammeri/Youcef Sabri Medel.
