It’s Olympic Day – Let’s Get Moving!

Today is the annual celebration of the Olympic ideals; a day for the global sporting community to organise various activities showcasing the spirit of the Movement which underlines the positive power of sport.

Based on the three pillars “Move, Learn and Discover”, Olympic Day summons people across the world to get active, learn about Olympic values and discover new sports.

Badminton World Federation (BWF) President Poul-Erik Høyer knows well the benefits of sport and though it’s 19 years since he stood atop the Olympic Games podium, the Atlanta 1996 Men’s Singles gold medallist still keeps fit on the courts of Hillerod Badminton Club in his homeland Denmark, playing with friends whenever he gets a chance.

“Olympic Day is a great way to celebrate sport and I urge the badminton community to participate in this occasion, whether it’s playing badminton or any other sport. Being active and fit is not only good for one’s health but also for one’s general well-being.

“Sport can bring out the best in people – and indeed in our world – as we have seen so many times throughout history,” said Høyer, who is also an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member.

“Here’s wishing everyone an active Olympic Day. Let’s get moving!”
