BWF World Juniors Go Back to Malaysia

The BWF World Junior Championships return to Malaysia next year and to the northern city of Alor Star in Kedah which hosted this event in 2009.

This tournament – a qualifier for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China – will be held 7-18 April at Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium. It will feature the Junior Mixed Team Championships (Suhandinata Cup) as well as competition in individual categories for the Eye Level Cups.

Persons born on or before 1 January 1997 will be eligible to play in the 2014 BWF World Junior Championships, with the possibility of going on to Youth Olympic Games next August if they reach the quarter-finals and meet other qualifying criteria.

These requirements include being born between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 1999 and that their National Olympic Committee does not have two players qualified in the respective category via the BWF World Junior rankings of Thursday, 1 May 2014.

The remaining places for the badminton competition at the Youth Olympic Games will be filled from the highest eligible players in the BWF World Junior rankings.
