Hamek Emerges Champ – 2017 All Africa Individual Championships

Algeria’s Adel Hamek claimed the Men’s Singles crown while South Africa’s Jennifer Fry finished with a double at the 2017 All Africa Individual Championships yesterday.

Playing on home turf in Johannesburg, Fry and Michelle Butler-Emmett fought past Egypt’s Hadia Hosny and Doha Hany 21-12 15-21 21-12.

Fry won her second title in partnership with Andries Malan in Mixed Doubles. The South Africans edged past Georges Julien Paul and Kate Foo Kune (Mauritius), 21-19 19-21 21-19 in a 47-minute final.

Kate Foo Kune had earlier claimed the Women’s Singles title in the first match of finals day, beating Hadia Hosny 16-21 21-14 21-8.

Algeria’s Koceila Mammeri/Youcef Sabri Medel grabbed the Men’s Doubles, beating South Africa’s Andries Malan/James Hilton Mcmanus 13-21 21-19 21-9.

Algeria picked up a second title through Hamek in Men’s Singles. Hamek held off Egypt’s second seed Ahmed Salah in a close first game and cruised ahead in the second, 21-19 21-13.
