Mexico, Canada in Final: Pan Am Team Continental Championships – Day 3

Mexico made the men’s final at the Pan Am Team Continental Championships 2016 with a memorable 4-1 win over Canada.

Despite Canada’s loss, they finished second in the group standings behind Mexico and progressed to the final. Guatemala beat USA 4-1 but still finished third behind Canada in the group.

Canada also made the women’s team final routing Mexico 4-1. Facing them in the final will be USA, 5-0 winners over Guatemala.

Mexico’s men had it rather easy over a second-string Canadian team. Arturo Hernandez created the opening, winning his singles over Luke Couture 21-17 21-17 before Ailton Correa made it 2-0.

Francisco Trevino made it 3-0 beating Phil Gaumond. Andres Lopez (featured image)/Antonio Ocegueda clinched the first doubles over Phil Charron/Jason Ho-Shue. Gaumond/Max Marin earned a consolation win for Canada in the final match.

Canada’s women overcame a 0-1 deficit to ease past Mexico, with Qinzi Ouyang, Josephine Wu, Phyllis Chan/Qinzi Ouyang and Michelle Tong/Josephine Wu completing the one-sided win.
