Badminton legends Lee Yong Dae (Korea) and Chen Long (China) and have been elected to the BWF Hall of Fame for 2024.
The duo will be inducted during the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2024 Gala Dinner on Monday 9 December 2024.
Lee, often hailed as one of the most gifted doubles players of all time, dazzled fans with his versatility and magnetic presence on court. From winning Olympic gold in mixed doubles at just 19 to amassing a record-breaking 46 Superseries/World Tour titles, Lee redefined the doubles game. His incredible defence and finesse at the net were hallmarks of a career that saw him lead Korea to several triumphs, including Asian Games men’s team gold in 2014.
Chen, widely celebrated as ‘The Great Wall of China’, was a cornerstone of Chinese badminton’s golden era. His ability to perform under pressure set him apart as one of the finest men’s singles players in his nation’s history. Chen’s career was adorned with impressive accomplishments, including Olympic gold at Rio 2016, silver at Tokyo 2020, and bronze at London 2012, as well as two BWF World Championships titles and 22 Superseries/World Tour titles.
The induction of Lee and Chen into the BWF Hall of Fame not only recognises their historic contributions to badminton but also honours their impact as role models and icons.
BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer said: “Lee Yong Dae and Chen Long have set extraordinary benchmarks in our sport. Their achievements on and off the court have elevated badminton to new heights. We are proud to celebrate their legacies by inducting them into the BWF Hall of Fame.”
The BWF Hall of Fame Press Conference will be live streamed on BWF TV, Facebook and Weibo from 4pm local time. The Gala Dinner, which also includes the BWF Player of the Year Awards, will be streamed separately.
