X-TRM Oceania Championships 2015 – Day 4: Guda, Chen Emerge Champions

Australia swept the X-TRM Oceania Championships winning all five titles on Sunday, with Daniel Guda and Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chen annexing the singles.

No.4 seed Guda (below), a junior international who represented Australia at the Youth Olympic Games and World Junior Championships, kept his composure in the climactic moments of a tense battle against New Zealand’s Luke Charlesworth, 21-11 15-21 21-19.

Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chen (below) turned the tables on top-seeded compatriot Joy Lai, 21-18 24-22.

Leanne Choo (BWF home page) ended the day with a double. After partnering Robin Middleton (bottom) in the Mixed Doubles win over Oliver Leydon-Davis/Danielle Tahuri, 21-12 21-14, Choo and Gronya Somerville (below) eased past Talia Saunders/Jennifer Tam (also Australia), 21-14 21-11.

Oliver Leydon-Davis’s bad luck continued as he failed to annex the Mens Doubles title as well. Top seeds Leydon-Davis and Kevin James Dennerly-Minturn (New Zealand) were upstaged by No.2 seeds Matthew Chau/Sawan Serasinghe 10-21 21-16 21-13.
